Many behavioural problems in adult dogs occur due to lack of training, socialisation and habituation during puppyhood.
When a new puppy arrives home for the first time, they often become isolated from other dogs whilst waiting for vaccination programmes to be completed. Often we try to protect our puppy from other dogs, worrying in case they get hurt or become aggressive. Isolation and overprotection can make our puppy become very good at communicating with humans but they can lose their confidence and ability to learn to communicate with their own species.
A lack of hanbituation and socialisation, often leads to anxiety related behaviours in later life.
Puppies begin learning with their littermates and parents as soon as they open their eyes and become aware of the outside world. By the time you obtain your puppy at 6-8 weeks, he will have already started to learn alot about his world and will need to continue this process as soon as he arrives within your home and family. By beginning your puppies training early and mixing your puppy with as many people and social dogs as possible during these important early weeks of life, the risk of many future problems, such as aggression, can be greatly reduced.
